Zanasi Lambrusco di Sorbara, 2022, 750ml

Description

Lambrusco is the signature frizzante (semi-sparkling) wine of Emilia-Romagna, home of food capitals such as Modena, Reggio-Emilia, Parma, and Bologna. The Lambrusco grape has many mutations, with different strains taking root in different parts of the region, such as Lambrusco di Sorbara, which is unique to the area around Modena. One of the features of the Sorbara variety is its light, pinkish hue (most Lambrusco is ink-dark). Scents of white cherry, red currant, wild strawberry, white pepper, and herbs characterize this example from Zanasi, who ferment the wine “to order”: the juice is placed in a pressurized tank and the fermentation is arrested when the wine becomes slightly sparkling. Bone-dry, low alcohol, and sublimely refreshing, this is tailor-made for charcuterie plates and other apéritif applications.
